The World Urban Games Budapest 2019 became an ultimate global showcase and a mile stone in popularizing a new generation of urban sports. For most of them, it was like a full-dress rehearsal, as 3×3 basketball, BMX freestyle and break dancing will be featured in the upcoming Olympic programs. Regardless the official competition rules, these sports still insist on their original identity: ‘underground”, group mentality, outsiderness, paradox.
The director’s treatment wanted show all these with amazing visuals: spectacular extreme sports tricks, stunning Budapest landscapes, plus the worn-out suburbs with their graffities and tags – a subculture which grew out from being semi-illegal and earned to be main stream, although wants to keep its connections to its roots. To emphasize the authentic feel and flow even more, music and lyrics were recorded by Csabi Kalotás and Sena Dagadu, two well-known figures in the Hungarian underground art scene.
